Daring Golfer Slaps Battling Buck as a Challenge

An Instagram video recently surfaced, highlighting that reckless behavior around wildlife isn’t confined to national parks; it can occur right in your neighborhood golf course. In this particular video shared by Jordan Garrett, a golfer dared to approach two rutting bucks engaged in combat. Taking the challenge, he slapped one of the deer on its rear, triggering a defensive reaction. The offended buck turned, lowering its head at the golfer, who wisely retreated. Fortunately, the buck backed off instead of charging.

The video’s location remains unidentified, and Jordan Garrett didn’t respond to requests for clarification. However, judging from Garrett’s other posts, the backdrop of live oak trees, and the relatively small-sized deer, it’s likely filmed on a golf course in Texas.

The footage begins with the golfers approaching the battling bucks on the fairway’s edge. The golfer recording the scene urges his friend to “just slap him on the ass, bro.”

“No way!” his friend responds, wary of the potential danger. “That creature will impale me.”

Despite the risk, the dare proves irresistible. Armed with a wedge, the golfer approaches the bucks and delivers a slap to one of their hindquarters. Luckily avoiding serious harm, the buck momentarily redirects its attention to the golfer, positioning its antlers defensively. The golfer swiftly retreats, while his friend lightens the tense moment with laughter, cautioning the deer, “Okay, take it easy, bud.”

During the rutting season, deer, elk, and moose undergo behavioral changes in their pursuit of mates, becoming more aggressive. Though these animals typically seek out rival males for combat, they may also attack humans if they feel threatened. To prevent such encounters, the National Park Service advises maintaining a distance of at least 25 yards from wildlife, whether in a national park like Rocky Mountain National Park or, more surprisingly, while enjoying a game at the local golf course.
